National Women's Suffrage Day
2021
On November 21, 2019, Google accepted Team Matilde's request and created the first Doodle featuring an Ecuadorian woman. The popularity of this news sparked a new debate: Why does Google celebrate her while Ecuador doesn't officially recognize this pioneer? Our founder, Jodie Padilla, raised this question with former President Lenín Moreno. Assemblywoman Gloria Astudillo and her team, led by Bernarda Ordoñez, the current Secretary of Human Rights of Ecuador, successfully lobbied the National Assembly of Ecuador to officially celebrate Matilde Hidalgo's legacy every June 9th with National Women's Suffrage Day .
We thank all our #TeamMatildeAmbassadors for joining the virtual celebration and making Matilde Hidalgo a trending topic on Twitter again. Thank you!

Thanks to the leaders, media outlets, organizations, and institutions that joined together to celebrate this national commemoration using the hashtag
#NationalWomenVotingDayEC
like President Guillermo Lasso and the Spanish press. Without you, nothing would be possible!
We share the joy that fills us with all the people who have supported us for almost 4 years!
We could thank everyone who shared, posted, forwarded, saved, and spoke about Matilde for the first time with their family and loved ones for a lifetime. You can see everyone who tagged us in the Instagram Highlight "June 9, 2021" from @TeamMatilde.
